Carbon Capture and Storage

Description: As carbon emissions rise and oceans become unable to hold as much carbon as usual being able to reduce the amount of carbon in the air becomes a necessity. Carbon capture is the practice of capturing carbon from the air and storing it or utilizing it.

Effects: This technology can capture carbon from the air mitigating the carbon in ecosystems. By capturing the carbon the ocean has less pressure on it to take in carbon and can heal better from years of overburdening.

Potential Pitfalls: Though carbon capture has the potential to slow down the rate of ocean acidification there is also the potential for the technology to be misused leading to leakage and other disasters for local communities. On top of that as with any new technology the effects can be disproportionate in their impact and certain communities can gain less from the technology than others. This is why it is important to use data in order to make sure that the technology is employed equitably.
